Magical Ironing?

Filed under: Silly Somethings — Joy @ 10:57 am

I had to purchase a new ironing board cover over the weekend and I was totally amused by what the packaging said!

“there’s something rather magical about ironing. you take your rumpled-up life. spritz a little water on it. run and iron over it. and presto everything’s new again. the wrinkles of yesterday have vanished right before your very eyes and there you are. looking fresh. feeling sharp. ready to take on the world.”

The person who wrote this has clearly never ever ironed in their life! No matter your method of ironing I am positive that you are not thinking that ironing is magical! It would be magical however if you came home from work and the little mice that live in the attic had been hard at work all day ironing your clean laundry. Now that is magical! First of all the bottle never spritzs! It either dumps, streams or doesn’t work. Second, I have to say that the wrinkles don’t vanish right before your very eyes. It is a slow drawn out process because you have to plug in the iron, stand there wait for the iron to get warm and work really hard to get most of the wrinkles out. Then you rush off to work or your next activity and have to make a special trip back home to unplug the iron. Third, I am not really sure that ironing is the thing that makes me feel ready to take on the world. It so makes me chuckle! I just had to share this little quote so that it could had a little haha to your day!

Cheesy Toast

Filed under: Happenings, Look At Her Grow, Recipes, Silly Somethings — Joy @ 6:05 pm

Mmmmm Good! I have started giving Charis cheesy toast in the last few days and she is in love with it! It is a very complicated recipe of sprinkling cheese on bread and then placing it in the oven on broil. Complicated I know! She eats all of it minus the crust of course! I have never been a big crust fan so I decide that she is not either. I know I know that is where all the good stuff is but blah! It is so much fun to see what she likes and does not like. She is definitely her own little person, therefore, when she is older if she wants to eat the crust of the bread she is allowed to. I will just make sure that she knows how gross it is first.

All Rise…

Filed under: Silly Somethings — Joy @ 3:07 pm

I have found Charis sitting in her bed after naptimes recently so I knew it was just a matter of time before she would figure out that she could stand in her bed also. Well, today was that day! She usually cries for a bit when I first put her in the crib but she was crying more than normal so I went to check on her and sure enough she was just standing there screaming her head off. I think that she scared herself since she had never stood in her bed before. I guess that next comes jumping on the bed. :)

It’s A Double

Filed under: Happenings — Joy @ 2:51 pm

We made the trek in the cold to the doctor’s office this morning and it turns out that Charis has an ear infection in both ears. Poor thing! I feel so bad for her. She has been a good bit cranky and sick with a cold so I made her an appointment yesterday afternoon for this morning. I was not sure if I would keep it or not. Last night at small group Charis let a stranger (to her) hold her and she laid her head down on the ladies shoulder which totally is not Charis to lay her head down at all especially on a stranger. I knew that we needed to see the doctor after that. She is on the pink stuff now! For all you out there who have fond memories of the pink stuff (amoxicillin) it still smells the same and everything! It brought back memories of sick days and the wonderful taste of bubble gum! Hopefully Miss Charis will be back to her crazy ways soon!

Constant Supervision

Filed under: Family, Happenings, Silly Somethings — Joy @ 2:51 pm

I had not posted about this yet but I just keep chuckling in my mind over it so I thought that I would share… Two weekends ago I asked Brad to watch Charis while I made breakfast. He is always so willing to watch her and hang out with her while I get a few things done. It is a blessing! Brad brought Charis downstairs with him when breakfast was ready and he just looked at me with this look and said, “Did you know that this thing requires constant supervision?” I just laughed and laughed! It was the cutest most honest comment one could make about our child. It was already a known fact for me though. I still laugh about it when I think of it. This in case you were wondering is what led to baby proofing the house…a few minutes with a mobile baby!

Nnnnana

Filed under: Happenings, Look At Her Grow, Silly Somethings — Joy @ 3:04 pm

Such an endearing term for a food greatly loved! Charis loves her bananas these days. She has started eating “real” food cut up in microscopic pieces (okay not quite that tiny but small all the same). When I start preparing her food occasionally she will start saying nnnnana over and over again greatly anticipating the banana that is coming her way. It is pretty cute! I started telling her what food I was giving her and I guess that banana is pretty easy to say especially if you drop the b. She is very passionate about her nnnnanas. She is up to eating about a half of a banana at lunch although eating is loose as I think she mainly does a quick mash with the gums and swallows it pretty much whole. She is enjoying all her “real” food but has taken this strong liking to the nnnnanas. It is a cute thing!

Gated Community

Filed under: Baby Gizmos, Look At Her Grow, Silly Somethings — Joy @ 3:04 pm

My mom says that Charis is now living in a gated community! Brad and his dad installed several baby gates around the house this weekend. I feel quite confined along with Charis but we are thankful for the new gates as confined is not always a bad thing! I am just use to freely moving about my home but now there are pauses for gate openings; all worth the safety of the little one though. The gates are really nice and easy to operate which I am really thankful for. It was worth spending the extra money, I now admit, for a nice sturdy gate that I will not get frustrated with. We also purchased the little outlet covers so that there will be no electrocution going on. It is always nice to not have to worry about such things. This mobility thing is a whole new world. It is amazing to watch Charis move about, sitting, pulling up etc. It is also amazing to think that she has now spent more time outside of me than inside of me. Time does fly and they really do grow up so quickly before I know it the gates will be gone.

Sitting Pretty

Filed under: Happenings, Look At Her Grow — Joy @ 2:41 pm

Charis was playing on the floor this afternoon just crawling around and exploring. I was not paying to much attention to her, as she was distracted from me so I was trying to use that time wisely. :) Out of the corner of my eye though I totally caught her going from a crawling position to a sitting position. Just like that! She had the most amazed look on her face and of course I went totally bezerk! She had been crawling and kind of went into a split and then just walked her hands up. For the next few minutes she sat there stunned just walking her hands back and forth. She just seemed so amazed that those hands that she has had for so long could do that. It was pretty cute! Yet another big accomplishment! Hip hip hooray for Charis!
