Plentiful Showers

Filed under: Crafty, Happenings — Joy @ 8:08 pm

Many a baby will be celebrated during showers this late summer and into the fall as it seems there is something in the water here again! I am gearing up for shower season with some sewing as well as some paper crafting of invitations. This first shower is for a second time mom who has decided to go with cloth diapers this time around as she is becoming more and more organic and natural. She is the one who has helped out our family a lot with information on going more organic. It seemed fitting for her to have a “green” sweet pea themed shower. My SIL has a great stamp collection and had the perfect stamp for the invites and everything just fell into place from there. The invites headed out in the mail this week so now it is time to get a move on the sewing end of things. The fabric behind the invite is a hint of what her gifts will be made from! ;)

Any Serger Thoughts

Filed under: Crafty — Joy @ 2:42 pm

I have been contemplating a serger for what seems like forever now and I have still come to no definite conclusion so I thought that I would pose the question here and hopefully get some thoughts. I know that a serger speeds up the process of making things but at the same time I still wonder if I really would use it. It seems a little intimidating to me to figure out all that it does but alas everyone tells me that I would love it. Does anyone out there have any thoughts? Do you use one, do you like it and most importantly could you live without it? ;) Thanks for any thoughts!

Garden Fresh

Filed under: Gardening — Joy @ 8:11 pm

The garden has been in full bloom we have already had many cucumbers and two squash. There are a few jalapenos waiting to be picked and the tomatoes are working on turning from green to red! The past two weeks I have been taking care of a friends garden while she is away and since she started her garden before mine she has already had a lot of tomatoes ripen and they have been delicious. Here is a look at a tasty salad from the other night (there are not many cucumbers because I kept picking them out to eat), there is nothing like garden fresh!

I promise to post soon with quilt pictures as I finally finished the Amy Butler Brick Path Quilt

Thoughts

I was reading Sister a Bible story the other day from The Jesus Storybook Bible about David and Goliath. This quote from the story has stuck with me for a few days now and I thought that I would share.

It isn’t how strong you are or how many swords and spears you have that will save you-it is God who saves you! This is God’s battle. And God always wins his battles!

I constantly try to fight battles on my own strength and become quickly tired and worn. It was wonderful to be reminded that it is God who fights battles and saves. He does always win His battles but not always in the way that we think He will.

MIA But I Found More Fabric

Filed under: Crafty, Happenings — Joy @ 3:35 pm

I have been missing in action for a good bit but I am still here! ;) We have been trying to soak in as much of summer as possible while learning a lot about how to love each other well (there is something about having a three year old that thrust you into that) and I am also discovering that the world of siblings is amazingly wonderful and hard! There is so much for me to learn as I am an only child (which has its positives) but I want to parent our kiddos well as they are siblings to each other. So much to learn and put into practice as well as enjoy! That is a good glimpse of our summer thus far!
I had to post though and show two finds from JoAnn’s this morning. I was really surprised to stumble upon a whole bolt of (on sale mind you) Alexander Henry’s Bird Seed as well as Turtle Bay Rock! I snatched them up pretty quickly so much so that Sister even commented on my glee! ;) You might want to check out your local JoAnn’s just in case!
