Okra

Filed under: Gardening — Joy @ 8:20 pm

I found this beautiful Okra flower blooming in the garden last week! It was a wonderful surprise as the okra had not done much up until now. I picked the first of the okra this week and last night I fried some in true southern style! It was very yummy even though I ate it alone as the kiddos and hubby would not touch it. ;)

So Cool

Filed under: Gardening — Joy @ 9:28 pm

My husbands Alma Mater sent us an invitation for the opening of their new science building and it was so cool that I had to share! What could be so cool about an invitation you ask, well it is printed on paper with wildflower seeds embedded in it! I know, so cool isn’t it! Here is a picture of the back of the invite which tells you how to plant your new wild flower seeds!

I just Googled wildflower seed paper and you can actually buy it at many different places and many places will print invitations on it as well. Hmm, maybe I am the last to know about this as well but it is still cool! ;)

The First Day

Filed under: Look At Her Grow — Joy @ 10:42 pm

In honor of the first day of school I thought that I would share a few pictures of sister’s backpack. I used the Easy-Breezy Back Sack pattern from Lizzie B Cre8tive.

I was excited with the way that it turned out!!!

The Last To Know

Filed under: Cool Sites — Joy @ 10:17 pm

I truly think that I am the last person to know about this educational website but just in case I am not the last person to know I thought that I would share! Sister is loving the ABC’s Let Get Ready To Read section right now. Brad shared the site with me just the other night so we have only gone through it a hand full of times but already I see great improvement and she loves it! Check it out and maybe your little ones will enjoy it as well!

School Daze

Filed under: Crafty,Happenings,Look At Her Grow — Joy @ 2:47 pm

Preschool open house is tomorrow!!! I do feel as though I am in a daze as we all anticipate what school will look like for us. Will she make it to the door of her room without melting or for that matter will I make it without melting! ;) A new adventure is waiting to begin. I am excited for the open house and time to meet sister’s teacher with her. It will definitely be a big change to our routine. The first day is next Tuesday so in preparation I had to make her a little dress as I felt the need to cover her in love as I send her off.

Somehow I lost the armhole pattern piece and ended up buying a new pattern only to discover that I could not find the left over material (no, I don’t need to clean the craft area, really, it is organized). I substituted bias tape which turned out pretty well although when that was finished of course the material turned up, alas! Also, can you tell that ironing is not something that happens around here often! ;)

The button on the back is really sister’s favorite part about the dress!

Shower Decorations

Filed under: Crafty — Joy @ 8:05 pm

Well, the official baby shower season begins with a bang this weekend as I get to be apart of two showers in one weekend. How fun! Don’t worry though, I will not be drinking the water! I got to make a few onesies for the second shower. They will be hung across a mantel for decoration. Here is my favorite one, Cute As A Button!

Plentiful Harvest

I was not sure that the day would ever come but the tomatoes are finally ripening and I am finding myself with an overwhelming amount of tomatoes! Not a bad problem at all to have just an overwhelming problem! I have given many away but I am still finding myself with so many tomatoes. I have been gathering information and trying to decide the best method to put away some tomatoes for the winter months and I think that I am going to go with freezing for now. I definitely want to can next year but it just felt like to much to run out and buy all the things that I would need to plunge into that so I settled on freezing for now. I spent a small part of nap time preparing the tomatoes and if all goes as planned we can have some tasty casseroles and soups with fresh tomatoes in the dead middle of winter. That is pretty exciting to me! I followed these directions and it was really pretty easy. A little messy but easy all the same! Give it a try and we can enjoy soup together this winter!

Oh yes, I also want to try to make some of these although by the looks of them they would not be around as long as the frozen tomatoes. Tasty!

Still Sewing

Filed under: Crafty — Joy @ 8:47 pm

I am really still hear just sewing away! I am still working on the quilt that I mentioned a few weeks back here is a little peak at it. I am just trying to decide how I want to tie it since I have decided against quilting it. Decisions decisions!

With sister preparing for preschool’s start in just two weeks she has requested a new dress as well as a backpack which I am sewing away on. I did loose a piece of the pattern though which greatly slowed down my progress but alas I have repurchased the pattern and I am on target again! ;)

I am also still sewing away on baby gifts! I think that the Itty Bitty Baby Dress is my favorite project thus far. The tutorial is easy to follow and it is so cute when you are finished.

There are a few other projects in the works as well but I should head off to sew a bit more! I hope to share more completed projects soon!
