The Day After The Day After

Filed under: Crafty — Joy @ 10:12 pm

So, the local fabric store has a day after the day after Thanksgiving sale which I decided was a must attend as ALL fabric was 40% off. Yes, that said 40%!!! The store was a bit of a mob as one might imagine but they said that it had been even worse this morning with no parking places and total and complete chaos so I was thankful for the mob! It was a little awkward carrying around large bolts of fabric in a packed store so I ended up making several trips to the cutting counter which paid off as I did not break anything or anyone. ;) I am really excited about the finds from the day. There was definitely more to have but I did need to use at least some form of self control!!! I was able to find two bolts of cute Japanese fabric which I was really excited about and I love the new line from Wendy Slotboom (Feathered Friends). The rest of the finds were a bit random but go with some other fabrics in the stash and hope to one day become fun little pillow cases for the kiddos, gifts, pj’s etc. It was definitely a lot of fun and I will look forward to it again next year as well!

The Day After

Filed under: Crafty, Outings — Joy @ 8:13 pm

The day after Thanksgiving I told myself no Joann’s. I knew that it would be WILD but you know deep down inside that 50% off notions wall just kept calling to me. Hubby heard it without a doubt and even volunteered to come along even with the kiddos in tow. Yep, we all braved Joann’s together! It was not horrible until we waited in line for about 45 minutes to get two things of fabric cut. I know, 45 minutes. . .who does that! Me! Anyways, we headed up to the front of the store to pay after hitting the wonderful notions wall and then we found ourselves walking to the back of the store again. Yes, the line was all the way to the back of the store and we have a larger Joann’s. Wow! As a wonderful happy family we proceeded to wait in line to check out for approximately 45 minutes. Let me tell you that the kids were wonderful (for that long of a wait). Hubby was a real trooper walking around for a bit with sister and keeping her entertained. I had the little man who was content to dump everything out of the cart and put it back in a few million times. I cannot believe that we went but it was worth it (just think of the savings) and we all even made it out alive!

Happy Thanksgiving

Filed under: Crafty, Happenings — Joy @ 10:18 pm

Finished up the Thanksgiving dress last night. . .just in time. Sister insisted that it have acorns on it (she actually found the fabric and brought it to me at our local fabric store) with acorn buttons. The lining has cornucopias on it and it is reversible but I was told she would be only wearing the acorn side! ;)

Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving and a time of togetherness!
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever. Psalm 136:1

Hair

Filed under: Crafty, Happenings — Joy @ 9:48 pm

Hair is such a crazy thing! We let sister’s hair get pretty long and a good bit out of control before I finally got brave enough and ready to cut it. I am still cutting her hair and though it is not perfect I am slowly figuring it out plus it is really forgiving as it is curly curly! I must admit that at a year and a half I had still not cut brother’s hair. I mean I had definitely kept the line in the back straight and tidy but that is it the rest of it had pretty much grown to one length except for on top. His hair is straight and it just felt overwhelming to cut hair where you would be able to see so many mistakes plus it is still that fluffy baby hair that is so wonderful! Last week was the week though! I finally broke down after much encouragement from the hubby and cut away. His hair feels more like little boy hair now and not so downy soft and he looks so much older but I must admit that he does look cute (bias). I am not thrilled with the haircut as it is a bit choppy but hopefully with time I will figure it out!

In other news I promise that I did not use my Gingher Scissors (pictured above) to cut brother’s hair!!! ;) Joann’s had a 50% off sale on them a few weeks ago and I was super excited to finally get a pair. I liked them so much that my hubby surprised me with a few more of our anniversary! We celebrated 10 years last week! This past 10 years has held so much! I am so thankful for the blessing of him in my life and looking forward to the next 10!

To Celebrate A Little Girl

Filed under: Crafty, Happenings — Joy @ 8:46 pm

This past week all but one of us has endured the stomach bug! Fun times huh! ;) I am sure that brother hopes he has escaped the bug and the rest of us are thankful that it is over! I did not get to go to this shower over the weekend which was super sad but I am sure everyone was thankful not to bring home a little something extra from the shower in the form of the stomach bug. This coming weekend if all stay well we do get to celebrate a little girl who will be here after the first of the year. I felt that this new little one needed a little dress with matching shoes for her big arrival! Her mommy is not so girly so choosing fabric was tough on this one but I am excited with the way it turned out (good ole’ Joel Dewberry to the rescue). I am looking forward to celebrating this new little one.

A Little Boy

Filed under: Silly Somethings — Joy @ 10:43 pm

A Little boy is on his way in the latest round of baby showers. I love this little blanket and it is going to be hard to wrap it up and give it away. I found the giraffes (Alexander Henry) at Joann’s many months ago and I knew that they would become a blanket one day. I ended up pairing it with the chenille and a strip of the trees (Robert Kaufman) which I love! Here is hoping that I can actually wrap it up and get it to the shower without keeping it for myself. ;)

New Pins

Filed under: Crafty — Joy @ 4:02 pm

So, this is a silly thing to blog about but I am okay with that! ;) Joann’s was having a large notions sale a few weeks ago so I decided that it was time for some new pushpins as mine have been around for probably nine years and it just felt like time. There were so many decisions to be made as pushpins have come a long way but here is what I ended up with. . .bright happy colors as well as some button pushpins. The button pins are the best ever as they do not melt when you iron over them. Incredible! I have melted so many pin heads in the past. Who knew. I should of checked into the pushpins a long time ago! I told you this was a silly post! I warned you! ;) Now I just need to make myself a new happy pincushion as the red is not nearly as happy as the little bottle cap pincushions that Jennifer made.

Fall Colors

The colors have been beautiful here this week. There has been a lot of outside time trying to drink it all in. We have had lots of conversations about colors, leaves and how they bring God GLORY and tell of Him and His amazing creation. He is an incredible creator! I am not sure that I ever would of thought to make the leaves turn colors but I am so thankful that He did!
