Guess

Filed under: Silly Somethings — Joy @ 8:56 pm

Guess what I did yesterday for the first time in a l-o-n-g time (thankful for a cold winter).

Yep, it was time to pull out the ole’ mower and my neighbors are so thankful as I think I was the last one on the street to do so!

Ironing? Anyone?

Ironing

Honestly, be very honest here, does anyone really like to iron? What if we all banded together and decided to just go wrinkly…wouldn’t that be fabulous? It might not look that great but we would not have to iron! just think about it…it could work!
Yes, the ironing pile was huge today…it comes from not liking ironing so much…week after week after week. ;)

Cones

Thank you for the dollar section and thank you most of all for carrying 4 orange construction cones for a dollar in that section! We have played with these bright orange cones all day. The orange cones have been acquainted with all of our trucks, they have made obstacle courses and they have been set up as road blocks all around the house! It was hard to tell them goodnight but rest assured that we will be up and playing with them first thing in the morning!
Sincerely,
One Thankful Mama and One Happy Boy

I Sewed A Button

Filed under: Silly Somethings — Joy @ 9:49 pm

button

It has been quiet around here for a bit. There were lots of thoughts swirling in my head but none complete enough to write about. There were lots of projects cut out but nothing that made it to the sewing machine…yet! I have however in the last month sewed a button on a pair of pants for my hubby! Nothing amazing but yet still apart of life! ;)

Double Take

Push Reel Mower

So this was fun!!! I have really wanted to try out a push reel mower for a few months now. There is just something about them that says simplistic to me. Plus there is nothing like mowing in silence. It is an amazing concept I must admit. Brad had said that there was really no way that he would buy one until I had tried one so when a friend recently offered me a push reel I jumped at the chance to give it a good home. Today was my first attempt at mowing with it and I must say that while it was a little bit harder than mowing with a self propelled mulching lawn mower, I loved it! Yes, you have to work harder to mow…but is that really a bad thing? It is quiet which is fabulous! It is much greener! It does not kick up as much grass for your nose to breath in. Sure it leaves clippings behind but isn’t that better for your yard anyways. ;)
I have to admit that there was one man who did a double take as he drove by and slowed down just past our house only to turn around and drive by again to verify that I was a crazy woman mowing with a push reel lawn mower. Some of our friends drove by as well and had a good laugh over me mowing that way. I don’t know what it is but I really do love it! To me there are lots of benefits to using it and very few negatives! Give it a try…you really just might enjoy it!

Tricky Spring

The ole’ blog got a little dusty again! It turns out that after that big cup of tea things went down hill a little more as brother broke out with an allergic reaction to some medication. Thankfully he is on the mend and spring decided to pay us a visit so we have been outside a lot these last few days.

Spring always seems a little tricky as it appears enough to get things blooming and growing and then we will have another cold snap and the cycle continues for a few weeks until it finally decides to set in. We are taking advantage of the tricky spring as I mentioned we have been camped out outside for these last few days trying to drink in all the wonderful sunshine and warm temperatures. Every Spring it never fails that I get so excited about the blooms on the tress and the flowers on the ground. Every year I take pictures of the beauty that surrounds our house. Even though it is always pictures of the Bradford Pear Tree blooming and the Daffodils each year the pictures look a little different and I see a little more detail. I am so thankful that God cares about the details! He cares about the details of our lives both big and small and he even cares about the little tiny and delicate details of blooms. I love that!

Scrumptious Lemon Bars

While I was reading this blog the other day I could not resist heading over to this blog to try out these yummy lemon bars. Isn’t that funny how sometimes you start out on one blog and then end up somewhere else. That amuses me for some reason. At any rate these needed to be made as they seemed pretty irresistible and after all Hubby was craving something sweet. ;) They came together easily and smelled so tasty! They really are worth all the hype! Very tasty!!!

A Little Boy

Filed under: Silly Somethings — Joy @ 10:43 pm

A Little boy is on his way in the latest round of baby showers. I love this little blanket and it is going to be hard to wrap it up and give it away. I found the giraffes (Alexander Henry) at Joann’s many months ago and I knew that they would become a blanket one day. I ended up pairing it with the chenille and a strip of the trees (Robert Kaufman) which I love! Here is hoping that I can actually wrap it up and get it to the shower without keeping it for myself. ;)

You’re It

Filed under: Silly Somethings — Joy @ 9:01 pm

I have been tagged by Daisyeyes to share some more random and weird facts about myself so here we go. . .

1.) A favorite snack of mine is Fritos dipped in cottage cheese! Don’t knock it until you have tried! ;) Once you try it you are welcome to knock it, but I am pretty sure that you will like it!

2.) I really really do not like wearing socks or shoes.

3.) I am very particular about my chocolate milk! I have to buy the chocolate to make it myself because I don’t like a lot of chocolate in my milk and if there is not enough chocolate well that is no fun. There is definitely a perfect amount!

4.) I don’t like to wake up! Not in the morning, not after a nap. . .never! I don’t like waking up to an alarm, people or music. My poor husband!!!

5.) I want to have a Princess Birthday Party next year! I want to be able to have it in a garden with dear friends and us all to be dressed up (picture Emma). Sister thinks this is so cool as well because she wants to have a Princess birthday party also! I am okay with the fact that I want the same birthday as a preschooler! ;)

6.) I can’t handle it when things touch my nose! I sleep on very little of my pillow so that it does not touch my nose. Weird!!!

7.) I love to sing along with songs but rarely get the words correct! Our daughter has this same gift!!! ;)

Okay, looking back over that list those are pretty weird and random! ;) I am tagging whoever wants to play along!!!

Welcome Fall

Filed under: Silly Somethings — Joy @ 10:50 pm

See, here I am! I did not fall off the planet after all!

I am so thankful that fall is upon us as there is nothing like a season change to bring freshness and a new perspective on things. I feel like that is where I am right now. I just finished up two large projects (that is where I have been) and so it feels as though it is time to start again fresh and new on things that have been waiting their turn and things that have yet to be dreamed.

I had the crazy opportunity to speak on Sabbath a few weeks ago (on our church’s Women’s Retreat) so much of my time went into preparing for that. Speaking in public is not really a favorite pass time of my but I do feel that God gave me wisdom and courage to do what He had called me to.

The second thing that has been going on around here is that I have been making a dress! Not just any dress though, it is a dress for a friend who is renewing her wedding vows this weekend! I was pretty much blown away that she asked me to make it. I have never made a dress for anyone over the age of four, I have never made sleeves, I have never sewn with materials other than cotton (okay a time or two but they were small projects for the kids) but still she strongly felt that I was the one to make it. Wow! It has been an incredible experience to launch into! It has been hard at times but really rewarding as well to see the whole dress come together. God again gave me wisdom and courage to accomplish a task that He had called me to. I am super excited to share pictures with you but you will have to wait until this weekend after the big event occurs.

So, that is where I have been. I hope to pop in a little more regularly now. Sorry for disappearing like that on you who were concerned. Thank you for checking in on me. I just got a bit overwhelmed with my full plate there for a bit! ;)

HAPPY FALL!!!
